The Bristol Kitestore
Bristol Kitestore is owned and run by Martin and Avril Baker. The store opened in 1990. Martin is more involved in the day-to-day running of the store than Avril, who has her own public relations company. Martin has been into kites since the late '80s and was involved in sport kite competition throughout the '90s, team flying with Team XS then field directing and judging.
The highlight on the competition field had to be World Cup VII in Japan 1996, where the team took third place in a UK clean sweep. These days, Martin flies single line, sport kites, power kites, occasionally gets out in a buggy and sometimes ventures into the water..! Other staff in the store are all experienced power kite flyers, mountainboarders and kitesurfers.
Avril Baker is best known in the kite world for organising the Bristol International Kite Festival, -held the first week-end of September each year- which she has been involved in since its inception in 1985. The Kitestore is open Monday to Friday 10am-6pm
